I am the manager of a machine shop, and it is up to me to make sure that each part goes through our manufacturing process correctly. In order to do this I use a workflow management system. The first advantage of using an workflow management system, is that it allows us to know exactly where each part is in our workshop. This means that our expensive products will never get lost, and that we are able to greatly cut down on the amount of time that we spend looking for them. It also means that we know that a product had seen a particular workstation. This means that we are able to cut down on the number of times that we produce more parts that we actually need. The second advantage of an workflow management system, is that it allows us to direct parts in a speedier manner. We are able to know exactly when a piece of machinery is done working on a part, and so can transfer it to the next workstation right away. The final advantage of our workflow management software, is that it allows us to have date on our production. This means that we are able to fine tune our production process so that it will be as efficient as possible.
